To understand the depth of Ezekiel’s vision, we must return to the dark days of Judah. The kingdom was in ruins, and Zedekiah, the last king, was at the mercy of the ruthless King Nebuchadnezzar. Jerusalem, the holy city, was besieged and destroyed. God’s people, once a prosperous nation, were taken into captivity in Babylon, a distant land filled with foreign gods. What remained was a spiritually dead people, without hope and without a future.
